Abandoned

September 30, 2010

Actually, I’m not sure if this building is abandoned, but, it looked to me as though it was. I loved the way the sun was bathing it in light from one side creating a great light at the top right and strong darkness at the bottom left. Last day of the month, last black and white photo. πŸ™‚

The Door

September 29, 2010

In the part of Lviv in which we stayed, a few minutes walk from the grandness of The Citadel Inn there were lots of buildings that looked to be abandoned. It’s quite sad really. Lviv is the cultural capital of Ukraine, yet, the airport consists of a few small rooms. It’s very small and not really built for carrying huge amounts of passengers. Β So, when you find out that it is due to host Euro 2012 (football) you should realise that that will result in massive development. A lot of Western companies are finding the skills and costs of Ukraine quite attractive but, over the next few years, as the skills quickly increase, the costs will as well and soon, Ukraine will become a much wealthier nation I believe. Sadly, I fear that the cultural values which I saw on display will start to become eroded. 😦

Stairs to Nowhere

September 28, 2010

The Citadel Inn has lots of winding staircases. This was my favourite one… lots of lines to follow.

The Window

September 27, 2010

I’m now back in the UK. I wasn’t sure what to expect from Ukraine, but I figured it’d be cold. I was wrong, it was beautifully warm and sunny. The people were good to us, the food was great, in the place we stayed the service was fantastic and, the only downer.. I never took my SLR. So, this week’s photos are all from Ukraine and all taken with my Canon IXUS 120IS. A black and white week, this week. I stayed in a place in Lviv, Β called the Citadel Inn. The place used to be used by the military but has now been converted. At night, it can be a bit creepy but, it’s good for photos. πŸ˜€

The Pipe

In desperation, I walked around my mum’s house looking for something to photograph with my macro lens. πŸ™‚

From above

I’d been wanting to get a shot of a cola bottle and was trying to work out how to get an interesting shot. This ticks the odd box.

Pine

September 20, 2010

The past couple of weeks at work have been crazy… long, long hours and this week is no better! Since I’m heading off to The Ukraine on Sunday for work I had about an hour on Saturday to go and get 5 photos for this week’s posts. Not great but I managed to grab some stuff at my mum’s house after she fed me breakfast… lovely :D, and then headed home and took the kids into the forest for a walk and got the others. Scheduling (as usual) and hopefully I’ll still get the chance to catch up on everyone else’s blog entries over the coming week.

Sweets – Jelly Beans

September 17, 2010

My wife LOVES Jelly Belly Jelly Beans. I thought these would be great to photograph but, there’s too many colours in a regular pack so, they don’t fall very naturally and the photos often don’t work. I found he hipstamatic iPhone image to be much nicer than a regular macro shot.

AND that brings sweet week to a close. This means I’ll have to do some work and get new ideas for next week. πŸ™‚

Have a great weekend.
