Christo Rei

May 30, 2011

Of all the things in Lisbon and the vicinity, Christo Rei is undoubtedly the most spectacular. A ferry and bus ride away from Lisbon, it towers high above the area and is visible from the shores of Lisbon. The statue was based upon the Brazilian one and was created to give thanks for Portugal not being involved in the war. The area surrounding the statue is very also very beautiful, with lovely flowers and offers a spectacular view of the 25th April Bridge which crosses the Tagus river.

Have a great week. 🙂

Parque das Nações

May 22, 2011

I went out today to a butterfly conservation area. I figured that it’d have some beautiful flowers, butterflies and bees. It had… none. So, then I visited a steam fair which we found in the area. Awful, was like some weird Craggy Island fair (google it). Consquently I got no photos … still, here instead is a photo taken from the best area in Lisbon, Parque das Nações. For an expo a few years ago, this place was recreated. It’s now home to an Oceanarium, Science Park, cable cars, variety of businesses, a huge shopping centre and best of all, wonderful outdoor art installations. Architecturally, it’s the very best part of Lisbon. So basically, if you have just a few hours in Lisbon, get the metro to this place and enjoy yourself. One word of advice, don’t take that little blue train ride, it’s awful, boring, pointless, bumpy and will just cost you 30 minutes of your life that you can never get back!

Strolling

May 15, 2011

This photo is called Strolling because I can’t think of a better name for it. If you a suggestion, please let me know. This was also taken in Praca de Commercio, which is a large square. This is behind the point at which I was standing to take the previous photograph.

Have a great week… 🙂

Praca de Comercio

May 9, 2011

This photo was taken in Lisbon, in what’s known as the commercial district. Not much to say other than it’s about 2 minutes walk from a place that sells Calippo Ice Lollies 😀

Have a great week… 🙂
