Isle of Wight – Lavender

October 20, 2012

If you’ve never been to the Isle of Wight and are ever nearby (i.e. in Southern England), give it a visit. A weekend is more than enough time to see it, and of course, go in Summer! Within a 30 minute period, one can drive across the island… πŸ™‚ Aside from the beautiful beaches I highly recommend a visit The Garlic Farm, and to the Lavender Farm.

Have a great week πŸ™‚

Good bye to going Out

November 6, 2011

Prior to having kids my weekends were generally spent playing on the XBOX, eating and watching films; I liked that a lot. After the kids were born that changed as I wanted to not raise them to be couch potatoes. πŸ˜€

From March 17th to November 6th we tend to go out almost every weekend and after that it’s time for me to work on other projects. So, why those dates? Well.. those are the dates that the Merlin owned Theme Parks in the UK are open and by Theme Β parks I really mean… Legoland Windsor.

Now that’s passed it’s time for me to finish restoring our bathroom, finish making the children’s DVDs with all the stuff I’ve recorded on the camcorder over the last 5 years, play the keyboard and actually do some more experimental photography. BUT first.. I need to sort out the 2000 photos I’ve taken with my pocket camera over the past year 😦 Imported to lightroom last night, now I need to tag, clear the rubbish out, ‘enhance’… I really should have done it throughout the year… oh well, better get that done so I can do the annual photobooks. πŸ™‚

Before you go, if you like stop motion photography (or jellybeans) check out this incredible video on Taylor’s blog, ‘What’s Normality anyways’

Have a great week πŸ™‚

More Wildflowers

October 23, 2011

Here are some more photos from the Wildflower series I took a few months ago. Haven’t really used my camera since my trip away so I need to start taking some more photos before I run out of things to blog! Rather strangely the Spring flowers I planted which shouldn’t bloom until next March are … starting to sprout. Having said that it’s strangely warm for November. Still, that suits me πŸ™‚

Have a great week. πŸ™‚

Wildflowers

August 21, 2011

On my drive to work for the past few months I’ve noticed this small patch of beautiful flowers Β within the gates of a private property. A few months later a sign went up indicating that this property is in fact a business. So, a couple of weeks back I drove in and was confronted but a huge field ofΒ wild-flowers, not just a small patch. I left and came back the following day before work with all three of my lenses. I think I spent about an hour there taking a few hundred photographs, the following three are some of my favourites. This is, without a doubt, the most beautiful field of flowers I’ve ever come across, a stunning place. My morning of photography was unfortunately interrupted by the security guard, I hadn’t really thought about the fact that photography on the premises my not be allowed, so, when he asked why I was there etc… I was honest with him and showed him the photos, and thankfully he was fine with this and allowed me to take more photos before I left. πŸ™‚

Thumbs up, Two Thumbs Up…

August 14, 2011

On a recent trip to Whipsnade (the same day that I discovered the poppy field) I also past these beauties. So, I had to take the kids there to pose for some pictures for the annual photobooks that their grandparents receive πŸ˜‰

Have a great week πŸ™‚

Poppies (finally)

August 7, 2011

For about a year or two, I’ve been searching for a poppy field. I’ve seen many beautiful photos of poppy fields and I wanted to capture one for myself. Every time I pass by one of these beauties, it’s always on the side of the motorway where I can’t easily pull over and get out to take photos. Frustrating. Anyhow, last weekend whilst driving I passed by one due to my navigator taking me on a slightly different route than usual. I quickly stopped, reversed and pulled over in what I’m sure was a private field. There was no chance I was going to miss the opportunity and so, whilst my kids and wife patiently waited in the car, I snapped, and snapped and snapped and snapped and snapped. Now, the poppies where exactly at their best, looking a little ‘manky’ but, I didn’t care, it was a bunch of poppies together.

Next year will be different, I bought many poppy seeds from the garden centre this weekend… I’ll grow my own field next year… HA HA HA… πŸ˜€

Have a great week πŸ™‚

Pink Bells

July 10, 2011

So, if you were reading my blog in May you’ll remember that I took a walk to find bluebells and found none… since they had bloomed and died in April. Still, Β I was pleased to discover this pink bell πŸ™‚

So, completely unrelated but quite amusing… today I took the kids to the cinema to watch Tangled.. (yes, I know it’s a bit old but they had a special kids showing). Anyway, as soon as the film finished, I quickly took the youngest to the toilet before it got busy. When I walked into the toilets I though, wow, that’s a lot of cubicles… pretty good for a cinema. He did his um.. business… and as we left the cubicle I thought, how smart am I to have rushed here whilst all the others were queued up for the toilet. I found it strange that all of the other kids in the toilet were girls… and then realised they were all with their mothers, whilst I was with my son. As one of them gave me Β a rather disapproving look, it dawned on me that I was in their territory as we quickly washed our hands and exited the girls toilets…

Today, I also discovered that I cannot speak covertly in front of my elder boy, (five). I asked my wife, ‘Are we going to T.R.U?’ We decided not to and then got in the car to drive… he then says, ‘So, are we going to T.R.U?’ I followed this by asking, ‘and what is T.R.U?’ Β to which he replied, ‘Toys R Us.’ Β We went to T.R.U.

Have a great week.

Flowers in the garden

June 27, 2011

Over the past three years that I’ve been at my house, we’ve slowly been tidying up the monstrosity of a small garden that we have. Removing the weeds (an annual task but diminishing each year), filling in the fish pond (we have young kids and both fish were placed in a happier place), and making it prettier. These are some of the plants in my garden… finally, it’s starting to become pretty.

Have a great week… πŸ™‚

Lavender

June 13, 2011

These beautiful lavender flowers, I’ve very pleased to say, are growing beautifully in my garden. I need to get more! My aim is to create a nice little place for the bees and butterflies to come, eat, thrive and be photographed πŸ˜€

Have a great week. πŸ™‚
