This is Nyhavn in Copenhagen. If you love drinking, you’ll like it, if not you’ll get bored pretty quickly.

The Light Family

November 27, 2011

The last of my fun experimental photographs taken at the cottage during my earlier break with friends. Thanks to Steve for posing for these whilst I painted. These were done when we’d finished everything else we wanted to create and were bored late on the last night we were there. The car was done after all the people when I was still bored 🙂

Have a great week 🙂

Abandoned Boat

October 9, 2011

This abandoned boat was something I especially made the effort to visit when in Dungeness. Heavily abused in LightRoom and not perfectly 😦 Kind of happy with the result but really need to learn what I should do with it in LightRoom 🙂

Have a great week…

The Actual Light Fight

October 2, 2011

Last week’s post was entitled ‘Light Fight’ but, as some of you may have realised there was light, but no fight. The reason was that I was intending to post the photos shown below but… didn’t, and then subsequently forgot to change the title.

The photos below were taken in the pitch black when we were in Kent. I’d thought about them before hand and then was pleased to have so much fun creating them. Maybe next time we’ll get costumes 🙂

So, Ammar (left) and Steve (right) having a thunderbolt fight, followed by Steve breathing fire…

The camera in each case was set to bulb mode. The guys got into position and held still in the pitch black. I then painted them with a 5 million candle powered torch, and finally ran over with my LED lights and then painted the fighting lights for each of them. Since I was moving fairly quickly and wasn’t lit, I thus don’t appear in the photograph at all.

Hope you guys enjoy these.

Have a great week… 🙂

Painting with Light

September 4, 2011

One of my favourite things about the recent trip away was the lack of street and other invasive light. This presented me with the ability to paint with light (as well as light paint) :). My friend, Steve had kindly brought along a 5 million candle power torch to ‘paint’ with. For the shot below, the camera was left on a long exposure of around 10 seconds (I think), which allowed it to soak in the beautiful blue twilight sky. The grass was black and painted using the torch. For the second photo, I painted the foreground trees with the torch and left the rest as they were.

Have a great week 🙂

July 24, 2011

One year ago yesterday I finally got the chickenpox which sucked because it was my wife’s birthday, and having a husband and child with the pox is not a good way to spend a birthday. This year a couple of close friends birthdays also went similar ways. For one, I was ill, for the other, he fell of his motorbike. Then for my birthday, one of the kids was ill. On each of those occassions we’d booked tickets for something and for each, we were unable to attend. So, yesterday and today, nothing booked, nobody got ill and we got to go and watch Cars2 and head to the beach. Lovely. 🙂

Along with this I’d gotten a few weeks into this blog this time last year and, being home for a few weeks allowed me to spend some good time on macro photography. I got a lot of great support and comments from a variety of people and now, finally, I’ve been photo blogging for over a year. I’d like to say a huge thank you to those of you who visit, to those who visit and comment and especially to those who’ve been visiting and commenting here for the entire time. As always, some have disappeared but a couple have stuck with me and kept on commenting, and I really do appreciate each and every comment and the support… it really keeps me motivated.  Thank you!

Have a great week. 🙂

When is a Sail not a Sail?

June 20, 2011

It seems to be some sort of weird trend to make buildings look like boat sails and then charge a large premium to let people live in them. Dubai, Lisbon.. I’m sure there’s more. Still, they look quite interesting to me. Here’s a few photos of a couple of expensive places in Lisbon.

Christo Rei

May 30, 2011

Of all the things in Lisbon and the vicinity, Christo Rei is undoubtedly the most spectacular. A ferry and bus ride away from Lisbon, it towers high above the area and is visible from the shores of Lisbon. The statue was based upon the Brazilian one and was created to give thanks for Portugal not being involved in the war. The area surrounding the statue is very also very beautiful, with lovely flowers and offers a spectacular view of the 25th April Bridge which crosses the Tagus river.

Have a great week. 🙂

Parque das Nações

May 22, 2011

I went out today to a butterfly conservation area. I figured that it’d have some beautiful flowers, butterflies and bees. It had… none. So, then I visited a steam fair which we found in the area. Awful, was like some weird Craggy Island fair (google it). Consquently I got no photos … still, here instead is a photo taken from the best area in Lisbon, Parque das Nações. For an expo a few years ago, this place was recreated. It’s now home to an Oceanarium, Science Park, cable cars, variety of businesses, a huge shopping centre and best of all, wonderful outdoor art installations. Architecturally, it’s the very best part of Lisbon. So basically, if you have just a few hours in Lisbon, get the metro to this place and enjoy yourself. One word of advice, don’t take that little blue train ride, it’s awful, boring, pointless, bumpy and will just cost you 30 minutes of your life that you can never get back!

Praca de Comercio

May 9, 2011

This photo was taken in Lisbon, in what’s known as the commercial district. Not much to say other than it’s about 2 minutes walk from a place that sells Calippo Ice Lollies 😀

Have a great week… 🙂
