Bendy Bridge

March 28, 2011

This bridge was one of the items that I wanted to see in Bristol, the other being One Glass Wharf. I love the design of this bridge and think it would look beautiful, all lit up at night. I figured that taking a photo from underneath would work better than one taken from the top.Β I’ve just realise that Bristol does have quite a few bridges… I guess that makes sense due to the river that runs through it!

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that takes the time to leave me any comments. I really appreciate the positive comment, they keep me motivated to keep clicking. πŸ™‚ Please feel free to also leave me feedback on how you think I could improve this, or any other photograph. πŸ™‚

28 Days Later – Self Portrait

March 21, 2011

So, this month’s themed competition is ‘Self Portrait’. I’d gotten a few ideas for this but hadn’t actually produced anything. A self portrait shot can be as simple as looking in the mirror, but, I wanted to do something cool, something different. I failed to actually turn any of my ideas into photographs but, playing about a bit, I came out with this… I give you… me, 28 Days Later… πŸ˜‰

One Glass Wharf

March 14, 2011

I went to Bristol on Saturday and took a walk around with the kids. I’ve been there a couple of times now and I do want to go back and stick around until the late evening. Bristol is a wonderful city, with many amazing buildings that are crying out for the good lighting that only a good sunset can bestow. I realised today that I don’t generally take many photographs of buildings, which is strange because, I actually quite like modern architecture. Β After my photoshoot, I sent a lot more time with Lightroom, rather than just upping the curves, I’ve spent more time trying to bring out the best in the photographs. Not sure if it’s worked but, we’ll see πŸ™‚

The photo below is of ‘One Glass Wharf’, a spectacular looking building which I was pleased to find. I really wish that I’d had the time to stick around until the evening to get a good photo with the building lights on, and a great reflection in the river. I’ll have to make the effort to go back to do just this!

Have a great week πŸ™‚

Backlit Tulip

March 7, 2011

This photograph is the result of me experimenting with lighting. For Valentine’s Day I’d bought Michelle some flowers (of course!), and, the following weekend I decided to try to create an interesting photograph with the lovely tulips that were now beginning to open. I tried shining my trusty LED snakelight into the tulip to get the photo but that didn’t work well. I tried photographing the inside of the tulip, but that didn’t look great. After much playing about I placed the light behind the tulip, and placed a black card behind it. This seemed to work perfectly, at least, I think so. No photoshopping (or lightrooming as it is now) other than to clean up a couple of spots.

Have a great week…
