The Swarm

July 8, 2012

Pencils are wonderful subjects to work with. They’re beautiful, they generally stay in place and they’re silent.

Have a great week πŸ™‚

Smarties Refraction

May 6, 2012

These are some refraction photos that I took a few weeks ago, with the kids. A lot of fun was had by all, especially them, after the photo shoot when they ate the subjects…

Eggs on Forks.

April 15, 2012

Eggs. you can fry them, poach them, scramble them and boil them or, you could paint them with light.

My recipe:

Take one egg, place on two forks that are intertwined.

Turn off lights and ensure eggs on forks are sitting on a white board.

Set camera to timed exposure and aperture to around f10.

Set time to 30 seconds, and click shutter button (a remote trigger is recommended).

Whilst the time is elapsing, use a torch to paint the egg, and then swing it around to create a lovely background pattern.

Import into lightroom and then perform minor alterations until perfect.

Export to WordPress and enjoy…

Coil

March 11, 2012

Today was the first day that actually felt like March, warm weather, beautiful blue sky. So pleasant and a good change from the recent old spell. The daffodils and tulip bulbs that I planted have started to bloom and the tulips and crocuses are getting ready to wake up. Now it’s time for me to cover the place in wildflowers. This is a big deal for me because it’s the first time I’ve tried to grow flowers from scratch, rather than buy and plant … plants.

and, now, onto something that has absolutely nothing to do with flowers…

When you wish…

January 22, 2012

Thank you all for sharing the stories of how you got into photography last week, it’s really good to learn a little bit more about all of you, and whilst our reasons for gettingΒ into photography is so varied one thing that is definitely the same is the passion. Β This year in the sales I went to a local store to see what they were getting rid of that I could use as a subject… πŸ™‚ This beautiful candle holder is one of the items I found. I don’t tend to use candles much but, I sure liked the holder πŸ˜‰ Setup for this was to put a lamp behind the holder and shine it through… some blue card underneath was used to capture the shadowy stars.

So, this week I’m pleased to say that once again I took photos… just need to process them now so that I can add to my wordpress photo stash πŸ˜‰

As always… have a great week πŸ™‚

The Light Family

November 27, 2011

The last of my fun experimental photographs taken at the cottage during my earlier break with friends. Thanks to Steve for posing for these whilst I painted. These were done when we’d finished everything else we wanted to create and were bored late on the last night we were there. The car was done after all the people when I was still bored πŸ™‚

As requested with a rare second post in a week, here is the Lego Skeleton along with some friends the kids and I made. The bat, pumpkin and ghost kits were picked up at Legoland Windsor. πŸ˜‰

Halloween

October 30, 2011

The past week has been great as I’ve had the week off work and have had fun taking the kids out. Seeing as Halloween is tomorrow and we’re back at work, school etc… today was our Halloween craft day. We made a cool lego skeleton and some pop-ups… and of course, pumpkin carving.

Have a great week πŸ™‚

Up

October 16, 2011

Before I get to this photo, I just wanted to say thanks for all the likes, Β comments and feedback on the last one. If you liked that, then check out the inspiration for it, Helen’s Dungeness abandoned boat photo. You can also check out her blog here.

Okay, so to this photograph of Steven, again from our holiday. This was actually a throwaway photo that I ended up keeping. It was only shot to check out the concept of him being behind the bokeh lights; to see if I could easily get him in focus and the lights blurred. His eyes are closed because the 5,000,000 candle power torch I was painting him with was somewhat bright πŸ˜‰
