One Glass Wharf

March 14, 2011

I went to Bristol on Saturday and took a walk around with the kids. I’ve been there a couple of times now and I do want to go back and stick around until the late evening. Bristol is a wonderful city, with many amazing buildings that are crying out for the good lighting that only a good sunset can bestow. I realised today that I don’t generally take many photographs of buildings, which is strange because, I actually quite like modern architecture.  After my photoshoot, I sent a lot more time with Lightroom, rather than just upping the curves, I’ve spent more time trying to bring out the best in the photographs. Not sure if it’s worked but, we’ll see 🙂

The photo below is of ‘One Glass Wharf’, a spectacular looking building which I was pleased to find. I really wish that I’d had the time to stick around until the evening to get a good photo with the building lights on, and a great reflection in the river. I’ll have to make the effort to go back to do just this!

Have a great week 🙂

  1. Beautiful building!

  2. I’ve never seen an oval shape building before — pretty amazing and futuristic looking. Would love to see more shots of it from different pov. Nice processing with Lightroom.

    • Luckily for you, you will when I post more next week :p

  3. A gorgeous building and your photograph certainly does it justice!

  4. I visited Bristol a few times when it was quite a sleepy provincial city, then suddenly it became one of those ‘happening’ places with loads of new development. I agree with you, modern architecture when it’s good and shows some imagination is very very good and it’s something I love. It’s part of the reason why I love Miami and this actually reminds me of Miami – it’s that interesting combination of the quirky almost jarring angles of the building on the right contrasting with the flow and curves of the bridge and building on the left. Very nice composition. 🙂

  5. wow, that really is an interesting building! I like the angle you took the photo from. sounds like a pretty rad city to me.

    • It’s probably perfect for you… a place for students, artists and Banksy… 😉

  6. splendid colors .. and like the tilt

  7. Nice one Nigel, I wee what you mean, there are lots of photographic possibilities there 🙂 darn those wires!!
