The last of my fun experimental photographs taken at the cottage during my earlier break with friends. Thanks to Steve for posing for these whilst I painted. These were done when we’d finished everything else we wanted to create and were bored late on the last night we were there. The car was done after all the people when I was still bored
Have a great week

Before I get to this photo, I just wanted to say thanks for all the likes, comments and feedback on the last one. If you liked that, then check out the inspiration for it, Helen’s Dungeness abandoned boat photo. You can also check out her blog here.
Okay, so to this photograph of Steven, again from our holiday. This was actually a throwaway photo that I ended up keeping. It was only shot to check out the concept of him being behind the bokeh lights; to see if I could easily get him in focus and the lights blurred. His eyes are closed because the 5,000,000 candle power torch I was painting him with was somewhat bright

Last week’s post was entitled ‘Light Fight’ but, as some of you may have realised there was light, but no fight. The reason was that I was intending to post the photos shown below but… didn’t, and then subsequently forgot to change the title.
The photos below were taken in the pitch black when we were in Kent. I’d thought about them before hand and then was pleased to have so much fun creating them. Maybe next time we’ll get costumes
So, Ammar (left) and Steve (right) having a thunderbolt fight, followed by Steve breathing fire…
The camera in each case was set to bulb mode. The guys got into position and held still in the pitch black. I then painted them with a 5 million candle powered torch, and finally ran over with my LED lights and then painted the fighting lights for each of them. Since I was moving fairly quickly and wasn’t lit, I thus don’t appear in the photograph at all.
Hope you guys enjoy these.
Have a great week…

Prior to the coffee cup photo, these were some of the other ones that we did with the setup. Not very happy with the lighting on the face in the first one but still, it was fun…
Have a great week.

One of my favourite things about the recent trip away was the lack of street and other invasive light. This presented me with the ability to paint with light (as well as light paint)
. My friend, Steve had kindly brought along a 5 million candle power torch to ‘paint’ with. For the shot below, the camera was left on a long exposure of around 10 seconds (I think), which allowed it to soak in the beautiful blue twilight sky. The grass was black and painted using the torch. For the second photo, I painted the foreground trees with the torch and left the rest as they were.
Have a great week

This strange light shot, Retro Arcadia has been on the blog before. I entered it for this week’s Collective 5 light theme and made it into the top 5 photos. It may not be a big deal but I’m over the moon.
If you want to take part in collective 5 (and you know you do, especially David) then click here to see next week’s theme.

I love prisms, rainbow and the splitting of light. When captured, it can look amazing. This photo was taken whilst I was waiting for a friend at The Ashmolean Museum, in Oxford. It was my first photo outing, where I spent the day in Oxford just taking photos. I participate with a group of other photographers in a light-hearted competition and at the time the theme was colour. (Colour is possibly the best theme for a photo competition). Anyway, whilst waiting, I noticed the light being split as the revolving glass door… revolved.
At a certain position, it created this gorgeous effect on the stone tile floor. So, I set about capturing it, which proved to be very difficult as folk seemed hell bent on going in or out and thus spinning that door round and round or walking through the prism. (I guess that too could have been a good photo but, I didn’t want to appear to be some foot fetish perv). Anyway, just after capturing this, there was no more, the sun had possibly got clouded over and the light source was gone. With this photo I just bumped up the saturation a bit to bring out the lovely colours.

I love painting with light, I don’t know much about it other than what I’ve learnt through playing but, I’m enjoying giving it a go.
I’m slowly picking up various light tools, the image below was created by doing a shortish long exposure (:D) and swinging around a keyring containing fibre optic lights.
