Paperclips

April 8, 2012

I love that today is Sunday and I still have another day off work :)  Below is a rather strange photo I took for a competition in which we were encouraged to try something a bit different so, I pushed the colour as much as I could :D

Happy Easter Peoples… and, have a great week :)

Light Fight

September 25, 2011

So, before I went away, I had a few ideas of experimental photographs that I wanted to try in the darkness… and this was one… kind off :) On the first night, we decided to try and make an orb. A lot of different attempts finally resulted in the very first photo. Well done to Steven for perfecting it. :) The other photos were some outdoor swinging of fairy light fun that he, Ammar and I had. Sadly after we got back I remembered that we forgot to paint the outdoor scene with a torch. If I’d done that our orb would have been ‘on’ something, rather than just in the black!

If you’re interested in the orbs, check out Evan’s excellent Photo Extremist blog.

Have a great week :)

Light Bokeh Outtakes

September 18, 2011

Prior to the coffee cup photo, these were some of the other ones that we did with the setup. Not very happy with the lighting on the face in the first one but still, it was fun… :)

Have a great week. :)

Cup of Bokeh

September 11, 2011

This was shot when I was on holiday with a lot of help from my friends, Steve and Ammar. Fairy lights were used to create the bokeh and the trick to this shot is setting it up so that the lights are blurred enough to create the bokeh but the mug is in focus. Due to the fact that I don’t have a wireless trigger for my flash, the original shots were created by me having my remote trigger stretched in one hand, and the flash in my other hand. I’d press the flash and camera trigger at the same time. Unfortunately, this didn’t always result in me getting a photograph. :) In the end we lit this from above with a torch and the photograph was taken. I think that night we ended up taking about 100 shots of this, we’d done this same thing a couple of days before but the mug we used was pretty bland. Anyway, I like the final photograph, except for the fact that the bottom right is too dark and thus looks like it’s cut out. Still, who cares :)

Some other photographs from this shoot next week.

Have a great week :)

The Abyss

August 28, 2011

Two weeks ago my wife, kids and a couple of friends rented a lovely converted barn in Kent. This made a nice base from which to visit the local area where I finally got to visit Dungeness and, maybe more importantly provided me with no light pollution at night, which allowed me to get involved in some interesting photography. :) I get pretty bored taking photographs of scenery etc… what’s always been my favourite genre for photography is experimentation, playing with speed, playing with lights, creating an interesting setup for a photograph and it’s great to finally get back into doing these things.

Before I went away I bought a few fairy lights and the photo below was done using them. I got a lazy susan, arranged the lights roughly on the thing, focused, spun and clicked a long exposure (of around 5 seconds).

Have a great week… :)

Lines and Towers

July 17, 2011

I quite like the outcome of this photograph taken in Canary Wharf. So many wonderful glass fronted towers there that look stunning on a bright, sunny day. Boosted the contrast heavily on this after converting to black/white and the softened it a little.

Have a great week. :)
